Cassandra’s inspiration to found Empower Us was found in her life long dedication to caring for people with disabilities. Her first exposure to what would become her passion was her older brother, Michael, who has intellectual disabilities. Watching him struggle led her to her degree in special education. As of today, she has gained over 20 years of experience with the special education community whether it be in the classroom, Special Olympics or in her own life, as well as teaching with CCSD for 16 years. She has served as a member on the Nevada Transition Leadership Team for the state of Nevada. She is also the 2020 recipient of the prestigious Heart of Education award. She is also currently working with 18-22 year old students that have various disabilities on important workplace readiness and life skills in the PACE program. Over the years, her students have been given competitive employment opportunities which is why she decided it was time for her to empower other people in the community, too. She believes in empowering people to succeed in their lives and to be as independent as possible. To aid her in this calling, she has put together a team of professionals that each bring a unique quality to the company.

Dear Mrs. Cassandra Barcelo, this review is about how manageable and proud you have made yourself by teaching your class of volunteers from your program about outstanding professionalism and employment. As much as your students have made effort by working together as a team to learn new things and make money. With their teamwork, the more they learned, the more the program got more and more exciting and achieving. The program's job coach who made it all possible, Mrs. Cassandra Barcelo taught her students how to apply for jobs and ride the city bus and paratransit. The Pace Program thanks Mrs. Cassandra Barcelo for all her hard work to show and teach her volunteers how to act and behave like mature and hardworking adults. Also, she helped them reach their goals and participate with employed employers. It takes positivity, respect and responsibility to be a good and well-known volunteer and employee. She even helped me, Rachel Leader find a job at CCSD Legacy High School as a food service worker. Then she helped me get a summer internship job at the VA Hospital and bus coach me with the paratransit. I would like to thank Mrs. Cassandra Barcelo and her program wishes her lots of luck and goodness.
Rachel Leader
Rachel's Mom's Review: My daughter, Rachel has been with Mrs. Barcelo's CCSD/PACE Program for the past three years and has experienced tremendous growth in her behavior and in acquiring job skills. Mrs. B. was also instrumental in encouraging my husband and I to seek an updated diagnosis for Rachel's disability. Rachel is currently employed in a CCSD cafeteria and has gained the confidence and skill to operate the cash register. It has been a blessing to find someone who cares so passionately for her students/clients like Cassandra Barcelo!

Dear Mrs. Barcelo,
I would like to thank you for helping me get a job at Unlv. I would never have the job I have now if I was never enrolled in the pace program. You are such a bright young lady. You have not only helped me get a job, but you have also help other students get jobs as well. Thank you so much for your support. And I hope we meet again in the near future.
Sincerely, Manny
Mrs. Barcelo has been a blessing for our family. We never thought our son Emmanuel, who has autism, would ever be able to work a full or part time job. He’s been employed by Unlv for almost 4 years now & we couldn’t be more proud! Mrs. Barcelo always knew it was possible and instilled the confidence and skills he now has and shares. She’s always dealt with our concerns no matter how big or small. We love her passion & drive. It takes a special kind of person to do this kind of work! Mrs. Barcelo was born to do this! She’ll always be like family.
Dear Cassandra Barcelo,
I wanted to take this opportunity to recognize you for being such a great mentor.
We have learnt a lot from you, demonstrating your outstanding communication skills and patience. You always treated everyone with respect and taught others how to be respectful to each other. You made sure everyone worked as a team and ensured professionalism in and out of the units. You demonstrated integrity by adhering to all of Aramark policy and procedures and is always a positive leader. We really enjoyed seeing you and your students in our locations. Mrs. Barcelo did everything so I can get hired for a job. We went everywhere and did everything together. She came to my house to give me a job application so I could sign it and everything. She is the best teacher and job developer, I have ever had. She will help you learn and be successful with your job training. She is appreciated for all that she has done and I am so proud of her.
Dear Chris and Cassandra,
My husband and I would like to thank you so very much for helping our son secure a job. Cassandra, thank you for "fine-tuning" his resume, setting up a resume and business email. We are retired so attempting to help our son to apply online was both stressful and frustrating. You took this weight off our shoulders. Chris, I don't know where to begin in thanking you. As you know (and we now know), finding the right job does not happen over night. Your help in keeping Jim upbeat, assisting him prior to each interview, and answering his regular phone calls to listen to his concerns and encourage him was above and beyond. We also appreciate you taking a morning and going with our son to different state agencies to obtain the additional documents needed. This was a great help. Thanks
It is obvious to us that the two of you care about Jim. For this and everything else, we appreciate you.
Sincerely,
Judy Couch

Cassandra was put in our path through Vocational Rehab. I was very impressed with her experience and knowledge, it showed as I watched her work with my son. My son is a very unique young man. She took her time in getting to know him and his likes and dislikes to place him in an appropriate position that he would like and enjoy. As a parent I greatly appreciate that.
Thank You

Dear Cassandra and Chris,
I want to thank you and your job development company for helping my grandson David find a job that he loves. He had been with a different development company for almost a year and nothing had come up for him. But, when he was introduced to you, you listened to him about his passion for working with metal. You took his hobby, created a portfolio showing his accomplishments, and went seeking a job for him. It was amazingly fast that David was going to an interview with his portfolio in hand and reporting back to me that he had the job. He is so working hard to do well and we have high hopes for his future.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I want to said thank you for helping me. I am really appreciated that you teaching how to application and work together. I feel that communication is not barrier because Priscilla is willing interpreter for interview. She was really prepared to see me before interview make sure i understand all of those. I think deaf community should ask for help and communication access. I dont have to worry about asking interpreter for 42 or 24 hours ahead of time. Priscilla is wonderful job to help deaf people anything they need their help. I feel better when she was helping me to do paper works. I am really enjoyed working with you. It is really fast to help me and i just feel fast to have a job. Thank you for patience with me. I am grateful to have that company to help me to find a job. I am learning something new everyday about clothes in kmart. I never know about non slip shoes. I am glad that Christopher edit my application that I made a mistake email business so he lets me know what is going on.
Thank you
